On April 4, 2025, E-zavod successfully hosted the kick-off event of the Slovenia Living Lab, marking a significant step forward in the implementation of the MedDiet Go project. The initiative aims to promote sustainable rural lifestyles, local food systems, and tourism rooted in cultural and natural heritage.
The event brought together key local stakeholders from across sectors to identify and discuss some of the most pressing challenges facing Slovenian tourism today. Together, participants explored strategic priorities, including:
- Enhancing the value and visibility of local tourism offerings
- Strengthening destination management and supporting digitalization
- Addressing over-tourism and reducing seasonal dependency
- Reconnecting tourism with local communities, natural environments, and cultural heritage
- Fostering cross-sectoral innovation and collaborative networks
This collaborative launch sets the foundation for a series of practical workshops and co-creation activities that will take place throughout the year as part of the Living Lab process in Slovenia.
Upcoming Workshop: “Herbal Wisdom of the Monks”
The next step in this journey will be an educational and experiential workshop titled “Herbal Wisdom of the Monks”, to be held on Saturday and Sunday, May 24–25, 2025, from 8:30 to 11:30, at Žička Kartuzija, Slovenske Konjice.
Participants will explore the historic herbal garden of the former Carthusian monastery, learn about traditional herbal practices, and engage in hands-on preparation of herbal spreads, hydrosols, and teas—all while experiencing one of Slovenia’s most emblematic heritage sites, including a tasting at the legendary Gastuž, the oldest still-operating inn in the country.
This workshop exemplifies MedDiet Go’s commitment to connecting cultural heritage, local knowledge, and sustainable tourism as drivers for rural development.
