MedDiet Go Partners Meet in Alandroal to Advance Mediterranean Diet as a Tool for Sustainable Development

18/03/2025

The European project MedDiet Go continues to make steady progress in its mission to position the Mediterranean Diet as a driver of sustainable development across the region. As part of this ongoing effort, project partners recently gathered in Alandroal, in the Alentejo region of Portugal, to deepen collaboration and advance the project’s core objectives.

The meeting focused on three main pillars of the initiative: establishing a robust international network of Mediterranean stakeholders, promoting sustainable tourism anchored in local food heritage, and applying the living lab methodology to strengthen the connection between each partner and their territory.

Organized by ADRAL (Agência de Desenvolvimento Regional do Alentejo), the living lab took place within the framework of the Festival do Peixe do Rio—a local celebration of river fish gastronomy and cultural traditions. This setting provided a meaningful opportunity for partners to engage directly with the region’s community and exchange innovative ideas, best practices, and methodologies for enhancing the value of the Mediterranean Diet.

The gathering also reinforced the project’s commitment to transnational cooperation. By fostering stronger synergies among participating countries, MedDiet Go continues to highlight the Mediterranean Diet not only as a healthy and sustainable dietary model but also as a strategic resource for the economic, social, and environmental development of Mediterranean territories.

This meeting in Alandroal is part of a broader calendar of activities taking place across the regions involved in the project. Through collaborative actions, MedDiet Go aims to support sustainable tourism, preserve Mediterranean cultural identity, and generate long-term positive impacts on rural communities throughout the basin.
